What kind of oil are you using and why? Any specifics you can give are helpful. For example, do you have more oil pressure or lower oil temperature with a particular oil? Gauges are handy for this kind of thing. Do you like diesel oil, synthetic, non-synthetic, single grade? Tell us why you like what you use....

Well since I asked... I am currently using Rotella T5 10w-30 for the ZDDP content and the ability to keep the engine clean. Once I rebuild from scratch I'll go Amsoil synthetic after the break-in period.

Brad Penn 20-50, the stuff sticks like gum in hair. I'd like to try LAT 20-50 but it's about $18 per quart and I use 7 qts. per change. It's a little out of my budget now since I replace my oil about every 50 miles or so. We broke a camshaft in 3 pcs. Last year and all we did was replace the bearings, cam, lifters, pushrods, oil pump, and a rocker adjuster. We pulled the motor apart and the bearings were perfect. My engine builder told me to run it and was sold after the cam broke. I've even got Drew at Street & Strip carrying it now.
The stuff is badass!

I'm using the Valvoline high-mileage synthetic blend because...well I got the car when I was 11, and that's what my dad decided to start using on my engine Tongue Since I didn't want to change types of oil AGAIN on my engine (204,xxx miles, no rebuilds) I have continued using it, but with GM EOS Assembly Lubricant for the ZDDP.
